Colorfest Art Trail Begins at Shawnee Hills Wineries in October

CARBONDALE, IL– What does mixing art and autumn colors in the Shawnee Hills mean for Southern Illinoisans in October? It means that visitors can tantalize their senses with assorted indoor and outdoor art exhibitions, and the unique taste of award winning wine at select locations in Makanda, Alto Pass, Cobden and Carbondale. Colorfest Art Trail will be launched the weekend of October 11-12 along the wineries of the Shawnee Hills Wine Trial. “This is the time when great art in Southern Illinois will become more accessible to locals and tourists,” said Amy McMorrow of HeartlandArts.Net, the event organizer. “I’m very excited to be a part of it.”

The special seasonal art trail will include at least 12 venues, plus wineries, galleries and artist studios along the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail, the oldest and most award winning Illinois wine trail and popular tourist attraction. It will be featuring art from local artists with a wide variety of backgrounds such as paintings by award winning artists, copper and fused glass sculptures, or unique fiber art among many others.

Visitors will get to drink in more than a glass of award winning wine at Orlandini Vineyard, Inheritance Valley Vineyard, Von Jakob Orchards and Vineyard, Rustle Hill Winery, and the Red Ear in Alto Pass. These wineries will all be offering special temporary exhibits over the Colorfest weekend or opening new exhibits. Blue Sky Vineyard is hosting an art and craft fair and StarView Vineyards will feature its permanent trio of artists.

Keith Cotton Photography Studio in Cobden will be open, as well and Art Lovers Trading Company and an exhibit at Hair Brains in Carbondale, Angarola Stained Glass in Murphysboro, and Visions Art Gallery and Rainmaker Art Studio in Makanda.

Colorfest openings and exhibits are organized by the mentioned wineries and HearlandArts.Net. Sponsors of the event include Blue Sky Vineyard, StarView Vineyards, Rustle Hill Winery, Legacy Limos and Sedans, Inc., Skyline View Cabins and Oak Grove Cabin.

As in previous years of the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail’s usual Colorfest celebrations, various locations along the wine trail will be featuring musical acts to complement the wine tasting and art viewing. “This is a first time for the Colorfest Art Trail to be at the Shawnee Hills wineries. Putting art, wine and music together has always been a popular attraction for visitors,” said Amy Erickson, Executive Director of the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail. “We are expecting great things.” Complete schedule information will be available on http://www.heartlandarts.net/ and http://www.shawneewinetrail.com/.
