Two shows wrapping up this weekend

If you haven't had a chance yet, be sure to hit these two shows before they end up on Saturday, the 31st:

--Joan Skiver-Levy at the Civic Center in Carbondale

--Dan Johnson at Joni-Beth Bailey's law office in Murphysboro, with music by Kathleen Shaffner. Message from the artist:

On the 31st of this month I'm having a closing reception for my sculpture show, Concrete Visions, at the Gallery Space in Murphysboro, IL. The Gallery is in front of the Law offices of Joni Beth Bailey at 1008 Walnut St. The show consists of works done in concrete that I completed last fall. The reception will have guitar and vocal music by Kathleen Shaffner and lots of good food (Greek theme) and drink. It should be a great party. Everything kicks off at 6:30 pm on Saturday January 31st and lasts until 8:30 pm or whenever. The Gallery is just east of the McDonalds on the main drag.

Fourth Friday in St. Genevieve

Craig Thomas
Looking for something to do tomorrow night?

CRAIG THOMAS IS FEATURED ARTIST AT STUDIO DE MICHEL
OPENING JANUARY 23.

Cape Girardeau artist, Craig Thomas, will open a display of his paintings at Studio de Michel, in Ste Genevieve, during the Fourth Friday Art Walk on Friday, January 23 at 6PM.

Craig Thomas is a freelance artist living in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He is known for his fine art, murals, and street painting. His work has taken him throughout the North America to Europe. Thomas works as an artist in commercial, public, student and private commissions.

In addition to being an established artist, Craig Thomas opened an art gallery on Spanish Street, the Black Door Gallery, which is open on each of Cape Girardeau's First Fridays with the Arts, a gallery hop night much like our own Fourth Friday event.

"Thomas is especially good at painting the human figure with, what I consider, an enjoyably loose, lively and colorful style," says Studio de Michel owner and painter, Mike Devaney. "I have spent time with him in Cape Girardeau, in a figure drawing group, watching as he skillfully rendered the models."

Thomas has been both leading and working in the weekly figure drawing group for years. His paintings of the human form reflect those hours of practice.
